Q?Why did OpenERP change there name to Odoo?

We believe the current name does not reflect the offering of the company anymore. While Odoo remains an Open Source ERP, it is much more than just that. With the new Website Builder, POS applications, and the eCommerce storefront, the community moved into a new territory where no ERP has gone before.
We needed a new name to reflect the new horizon ahead of us.

ERP stands for “Enterprise Resource Planning”. The definition of enterprise resource planning is an integrated software solution used to manage a company’s resources. ERP systems integrate all business management functions, including planning, inventory/materials management, engineering, order processing, manufacturing, purchasing, accounting and finance, human resources, and many more.

Q?Is Open Source means free?

Yes or no, Odoo is free, you can download and use it, you can modify it, adapt it. You cannot sell it. But services around Odoo is not free. In order to get a good installation and perfect integration you would have to spend hundreds of hours to study and customize Odoo. Frontware has the knowledge and the staff to do it for you for a fraction of expensive commercial ERP solutions (SAP, Oracle, Sage,…).
